When I arrived at the Saarländische Gallery in Berlin on September 5, 2024, to fill in for another photographer, I didn’t know what to expect. The opening of Joachim Ickrath‘s exhibition “Despite the Straight Lines” promised to be a special event, and I was eager to capture the atmosphere and the guests in my pictures.
The gallery was filled with artworks showcasing the creativity and uniqueness of Joachim Ickrath. The guests, including Joachim’s son Sebastian Ickrath and his granddaughter Lilith Ickrath, both talented artists, admired the works and enthusiastically exchanged their thoughts. The atmosphere was lively and full of enthusiasm for the art. The opening speech was given by Prof. Dr. Meinrad Maria Grewenig, the former director of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Völklinger Hütte. His words about the importance of art and Joachim Ickrath’s artistic vision captivated the audience and created an inspiring mood.
The Saarländische Galerie in Berlin proved to be a showcase of Saarland art in the vibrant and critical art scene of the capital city. Joachim Ickrath, with his biography as a bridge between Saarland and Berlin, presented a fascinating and multi-layered exhibition that captivated the Berlin audience.
In my photos, I was able to capture the beauty of the artworks, the joy of the visitors, and the inspiring atmosphere of the event. It was a wonderful experience that I would like to share with others. The opening of the exhibition “Despite the Straight Lines” was an unforgettable evening full of art, creativity, and emotions.
